What is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)?

DBT is a type of CBT. Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, cope healthily with emotions and improve relationships. DBT, CBT and other mindfulness based therapies have their own perspectives which when combined present in a self help format that contributes to the quality of life for many people coping with emotional difficulties.

What conditions are best treated with DBT?

Mood-based disorders, anxiety, stress, anger, eating disorders, relationship issues and sober living support. DBT assists with conditions associated with overwhelming emotions.

 How effective is DBT?

DBT is one of the most thoroughly researched therapies.  How does DBT work?

DBT is skills based learning that can change your life. It is taught in four domains: Mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and personal interaction skills.

 How long does it take?

Clients need to allow four weekly sessions for each domain or attendance at weekend workshops. DBT residential retreats up to 28 days are also available.

 How do I know DBT is for me?

Discussion with your GP, psychologist or mental health professional is advisable before commencing treatment.

 What will it cost?

We offer a free initial consultation and discounts for beneficiaries. Comprehensive assessment and individualised treatment plan: $200.00. Ongoing sessions: $145.00. Weekend workshops and retreats: dependent on numbers attending and content. Shorter programmes specifically designed to meet individual needs are separately priced.

Jennifer worked for twenty years in the UK providing mental health services to the NHS and the private sector. Initially as an Occupational therapist and graduating to become a CBT, DBT and ACT therapist and NLP practitioner. 

A strong belief in the life changing effects of DBT, mindfulness practice and compassion underpins her work. Jennifer is not a psychotherapist or psychologist.
